Pick one. One song. If you had to pick one song for your life what would it be?  Maybe it is a song you sing in the car when no one else is listening.  Or a song that you listened to a thousand times as a teenager.  Or a song that makes you cry when we sing it at church.

Mine is “You’ve Got a Friend” sung by James Taylor and Carole King.  But I also love “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” and often times on the way to work in the morning in the car I sing, “The All Day Song” that I learned at summer camp.  I wonder why these three and not some others?  What makes a song
“our” song?  What is the message in the music that sustains us and shapes us through the daily activities of life.  In some ways the songs resonate not only as music but as prayers because they represent our longings and our deep gratitude.  They convey some message to and from the soul.

“Songs of Life” will be our sermon series for the first half of the summer.  Using the Psalms as our guide, we will long at the range of emotions – from joy to despair – from anger to praise – that unfold in a dialogue with God in this ancient song book.  The songs are not just ancient worship guides but also the songs we need for our daily living though all of the twists and turns that this life takes us.  How does the melody of God’s presence empower our lives?

Please submit your “song for life” using the form below, or on our Facebook page.  Or tell me yours before or after worship.

Grace and peace,

Carla
