I can still hear those words in my ear: “Life is a participatory sport.” All I had to do was look around and I’d see all sorts of opportunities. In our home something always needed to be done, so at any outward sign of that emotion called “boredom,” I would be led to the front yard and together my father and I would dig weeds. At a tender age, I hated that! But in time that phrase would become a gift and a guide for living.

Country Club Christian Church has just kicked off a new year and this family needs each one of us, whether visitor or member, to lead, to help plan, and to participate in at least one event this season. We each can dig in and:

  • Participate in Grace at Work with our partners in mission in northeast Kansas City
  • Join a new, in-home small group called Neighborhood Communion for Bible study and fellowship
  • Attend Dr. Graves’ Monday night classes, Sunday Connections at 10:01, FaithPub, or FaithBistro
  • Decorate your car for the enjoyment of all children at Trunk or Treat
  • Help plan and execute the Christmas Festival in early December
  • Help decorate our church for Christmas
  • Use your voice and sing (!) in the children’s choir, the adult choir, the Amani choir
  • And yes, come to worship each week

Let’s talk. Learn about the activities available and then we’ll guide you to where your interest and talents lie. Get connected and become engaged.

Pulling all those weeds wasn’t about perfection. It was about participating in something my family needed and doing my best. I also remember feeling such a sense of joy when I walked up the pathway to our house and saw our bright green, beautiful lawn…and then gasping when I noticed all the new weeds that had just popped up.
