Retirement
Since the announcement of my retirement through the mailing of my letter to the board, both Suzanne and I have been the recipients of many wonderful words of affirmation and
appreciation. We are very thankful for the
kindness and sincerity of so many in their expressions of fondness. We feel very warmly held in the hearts of the members and staff of the congregation.
Although my professional relationship with the church will experience some alteration next fall, it is a blessing to know that many of our friendships will linger for many years to come. I will prayerfully ask for the Lord’s guidance such that those friendships do not in any way distort the ongoing ministry of the staff and members of this congregation or the many dear memories that we carry with us.
Many have inquired about our post retirement plans. We hope to be flexible enough to take advantage of specially priced airline fares to Chicago (Trent, Becca and Amelia), Austin (Matt, and Suzanne’s sister and wider family) and Paris (fun).
I will look into courses in Greek at the Nazarene Seminary and French at Johnson County Community College. I hope to offer my services to several educational institutions in the area and beyond as an instructor in Pastoral Care and as an Enneagram teacher. I will also offer them to churches wherever there might be an interest. I will continue to be active in two international Enneagram organizations.
Both Suzanne and I will be interviewing local and national agencies and prayerfully considering where we might offer our volunteer services both together and as individuals.
But mostly we hope to be free to participate in or be supportive of our family (immediate and extended) and friends in the celebration of their special events and the meeting of their challenges.
Thank you for all of the good wishes. We will cherish the blessings of these remaining seven plus months.
