In their class Reading for Anti-Racism Rev. Catherine Stark-Corn and Rev. Tyler Heston share about their approaches to anti-racism work and some of the books that have helped them get there.

Watch the class here, then check out the accompanying book studies. Details below:

Raising White Kids by Jennifer Harvey
Parents, grandparents, teachers – really anyone who is connected to children – are invited to participate in a book study of Raising White Kids: Bringing Up Children in a Racially Unjust America by Dr. Jennifer Harvey. This book provides the foundation for wrestling with our own bias, prejudice and leads us to examine the racism prevalent in our society along with sharing tools that we can use to support our children as they develop their racial understanding. Rev. Catherine Stark-Corn will facilitate the groups. Click here to submit your interest.

I’m Still Here by Austin Channing Brown
On Sundays in July, young adults (ages 18-30) will be invited to read together the book I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness by Austin Channing Brown. Brown is a Black woman who has worked for different Christian organizations, many of which claim to champion diversity. In this book, she shares stories and frameworks that help show us how racism is still prevalent within our society, even in progressive Christian circles, and she offers honest and helpful ways to think about how to move forward. America’s Original Sin: Racism, White Privilege, & the Bridge to a New America by Jim Wallis
Throughout July, we will offer a four-part book study on Jim Wallis’s America’s Original Sin, adapted from Wallis’s study guide. This book looks at the history of racism in America and talks about the “sin” of slavery and the sinful genocide of Native peoples. Wallis argues that God calls our society to not only recognize these sins but repent of them. This book is full of history and theology and invites Christians into God’s work of healing the world from racism. Click here to submit your interest.
