This morning we woke up and had a feast of bagels and yogurt (delicious…very much so!)  We drove to a church where we experienced a poverty simulation. In this simulation we were paired with other youth from different faith traditions and were given different family/economic/and life situations. We had to pay bills, we had to find and keep jobs, we had to take care of our pretend kids… we had to do this all with the resources that people have when they live one paycheck away from becoming homeless. To many of the youth the stress of figuring this all out was eye-opening. The fact that we had to pay a mortgage was mind blowing to many of us.

When we finished this we headed over to the zoo for some fun. At the zoo we had time for playing around…and well acting like the monkey’s that we are! We came back to church for dinner, had small group time, and in worship, talked about serving our neighbor as stranger.

Bedtime couldn’t come soon enough for many of us as it was a long day. Tomorrow off to our work sites….whoot, whoot!

Grace and peace,
Justin Zeigler
