Country Club Christian Church’s Scout Troop 1084 has seen many different challenges in its 97-year history. Started in February 1923, the young men and leaders of the Troop have survived economic ups and downs, wars, floods, a lot of technical changes, and now the Coronavirus Pandemic. The lessons learned in are not lost when tested by challenging circumstances.
Last spring, as the weather was turning warmer and the Church closed its doors to regular meetings, the Troop began meeting by Zoom. These virtual meetings kept everyone working on advancement and preparing for summer activities. The H. Roe Bartle Scout reservation consulted with experts and made a remarkable safety plan, resulting in over 6000 Scouts and leaders attending five different sessions and had no cases of the virus. Fifteen of our Troop’s Scouts and several leaders attended a camp session in late July and came home safe, healthy, with many badges earned, fond memories of a great time. Continuing to use those safety protocols, the Troop returned to its practice of holding one campout per month.
The newest Scouting unit in our Church is Troop 7084, the girl’s Troop! It, too, is doing well and is about to celebrate its first Eagle Scouts. Look for that announcement soon! The girls’ Troop joined the boys’ Troop at its recent campouts and had a great time!
