“This just doesn’t happen.”  Words of wisdom to Bruce.

Day two in the community. Day two is a tough one.  Day one you are full of excitement and energy and ready to go. You grab the tools and get after it. There is a line of folks waiting their turn to help. Day two we realize, we’re soft.  On day two, it looks like the tools have an infectious disease. There are a lot more “opportunities” to participate in labor activities. We did so well on day one with the water tank digging, we’ve gotten additional projects. The Carolina crew has taken on the challenge of digging another latrine. They’ve made it almost six feet deep on the first day of digging. The team from last year has spent time today coming up with a laundry list of reasons why the latrine took us five days last year….the dirt is much softer, it’s not as hot, meters last year were longer than this year.

The KC crew did start on the footers for a break area for the teachers at the school. The holes we are digging are smaller now, but still are held to rigorous Nicaraguan hole standards….very square with very straight and clean walls. We have six total holes to dig and we got through two of them today.  The medical clinic had a really productive day and there was evidently a Mary Linda on a motorcycle adventure…that is a story for her to tell. There is hope in the team that the tools are healthy tomorrow….and the ibuprofen kicks in early tomorrow morning.  Shout outs tomorrow.
