The Minister to Children, Youth and Families (the “Minister”) is a full-time program and staff position reporting to the Senior Associate Minister.  The following job description is based on our current ministry to children and families, incorporating duties from the area of youth ministry.  This job description is expected to change and grow with an expanding ministry.  Individual goals will be developed as a part of the staff evaluation process with the Senior Associate Minister.

Generally, the Minister will seek to create an environment and culture of Christian formation within the Church.  The Minister will work to increase the presence and visibility of the ministry to children, youth and families within the life of the church.  The Minister will seek to create congregational ownership of the children, youth and family ministry as a core component of the church.

The position of Minister to Children, Youth and Families is a full time position that requires Sunday participation and some evening and Saturday duties, but includes one weekday off.   This position includes a salary and benefit package.

The Minister will empower and support the Director of Children’s Ministry, Director of Middle School Ministry and the Director of High School Ministry along with the appropriate councils to identify, create and implement the following:
1.    Meaningful opportunities for children and youth to develop and grow in faith (CYF Sunday School; Chi-Rho Sunday School; Sunday School rotation; Worship and Wonder, etc.)
2.    Experiences that inform/expose children to the varied components of the life of the church (worship, service, fellowship, etc.)
3.    Children, youth and family programs in connection with all-church activities such as Thanksgiving Dinner, seasonal celebrations, etc.
4.    Programs to equip children, youth and families with age-appropriate theological tools (parent/child introduction to the Bible, introduction to symbols in the church, etc.)
5.    Intentional opportunities for intergenerational fellowship
6.    Resources to help create home-based faith practices for families (Advent devotions, tips and ideas for prayer or Bible study)
7.    Occasional offerings (workshops, special Sunday morning forums, etc.) to inform and educate parents about faith formation (stages of faith) and the role that parents play
8.    Provides intentional supports and connections among families
9.    Pastoral care to families
10.    Annual Mission Trip opportunities in age appropriate groupings (led by Directors, with the Family Mission Trip lead by the Minister)
11.    Collaborate with the Director of Children’s Music to integrate music into programs for children, youth and families.

In addition, the Minister will have the following supervisory and administrative duties:
1.    Provide direct supervision and annual evaluations of Directors of Children’s Ministry, Middle School Ministry and High School Ministry and Director of Early Childhood Programs
2.    Provide support and strategic leadership for weekday, pre-school and PDO programs and the Director of Early Childhood Programs
3.    Develop and administer child protection policies for adults working with children
4.    Develop and administer the annual budget for the ministry (in conjunction with the Directors)
5.    Work with the Directors and Council to recruit, develop and train adult volunteers for the various programs and events
6.    The Minister will serve as worship leader and preside at weddings in rotation with the other ministers

The Ministers time breaks down approximately as follows:
·    Children’s worship – curriculum, programming and outreach (50%)
·    Leadership and personnel development (20%)
·    Strategic leadership of early childhood development program (10%)
·    Ministerial/pastoral care (20%)

The ideal candidate for the position of Minister to Children, Youth and Families will possess the following qualifications:
1.    Bachelors degree required, masters degree preferred in education or ministry
2.    Experience working with children and families preferred
3.    Experience managing early childhood program(s) preferred

The ideal candidate should be an energetic, flexible, self-starter with excellent leadership, managerial and interpersonal skills.   A comfort and an ease with children is necessary in this role, as is a visionary approach to the growth of the Children’s and Youth Ministries at Country Club Christian Church.
