About this Trip
Two teams from Country Club Christian Church are traveling this month to Mungeli, India to serve at Christian Hospital Mungeli. Each team will work at the Mungeli Christian Hospital complex. The teams will also visit Delhi and the Taj Mahal as well as other excursions. Louise Branstetter is one of two bloggers who will share the stories of this trip.

It’s Sunday night and in my suitcase are three items I don’t usually take on a trip. But I have been advised they are necessary items in India: a water bottle, a flashlight, and a bottle of anti-malaria pills. The first is so I can carry filtered water with me instead of drinking tap water, the second is to help me keep a look out for snakes when walking around a night and the third is to prevent a deadly disease that I could contract from the local mosquito population.

There will be six of us traveling to India tomorrow and as I was check off my list of items and filling my bags I thought: We must all be a little crazy! We have a volunteered to travel to Mungeli, India, a remote part of the world, where we’re told livestock walk through village roads and things like toilets are scarce.

But we’ve heard stories of doctors, nurses, and instructors who use their talents to serve the local poor. As Christians, this reminds of another healer and teacher. A guy who demonstrated love by being a servant to his followers, then asked them to do the same.

Sometimes the ways our faith calls us to act in ways that seem a little crazy. It’s a faith that asks for radical compassion, generosity, and love.
