On May 25 students, school personnel, and volunteers gathered to dedicate the newly rebuilt Hartman Elementary School Outdoor Classroom. The project was a collaborative effort of the Church of the Resurrection (United Methodist Church), Kansas City Public Schools, and Country Club Christian Church.

Church of the Resurrection’s Thursday Construction Crew donated many hours of skilled labor and the cost of renting construction equipment. The school district supplied landscaping materials and secured appropriate authorizations for the effort.

Our church’s Koinonia Sunday School Class donated funds for the lumber and other materials. Our Hartman and Metro Missions volunteers helped initiate the project and oversee its progress. Grace at Work participants prepared the site and other volunteers completed landscaping in time for the dedication ceremony.

The classroom replaces the original outdoor stage and seating and includes several new design improvements. It provides comfortable space for learning and activities in which students may also enjoy the beauty of nature and health benefits of being outside.
