Pat Martin will serve as chair of the congregational board for the 2018-2019 year. Pat has been a member of the church for 30 years, having first been drawn here by former Senior Minister Dr. Gene Brice’s preaching and the beauty of our sanctuary.
Pat has served in many previous leadership positions at the church, including deacon, elder, chair of the elders, board treasurer, as a Sunday school teacher, chair of the worship ministry team, and on a senior minister search committee.
Pat was born and raised in Independence and had a career as a certified public accountant. She and her husband, Jim, were married for 31 years before he passed away in 2012. Their two sons, Patrick and Christopher were raised in the church.
Pat’s goal for her term as chair is that we grow as a church both in size and spirit, reaching out into our community to help those in need while supporting each other.
“I am honored and humbled to be leading this congregation and am looking forward to a very positive and exciting year in the life of the church,” she said.
Brian Campbell has been selected by the elders to serve as that group’s chair for the 2018-2019 year. Brian has been a member of the church for 20 years. He was drawn here by the music and by former Senior Minister Dr. Bob Cueni’s preaching.
He has served in many leadership roles, including as deacon, elder, music ministry team chair, on the personnel committee, the Celebration Dinner and Auction committee, the nominating committee and as a member of the board.
Brian joined the church with his wife, Elizabeth, after moving to Kansas City from St. Louis. After Elizabeth passed away, he recalls that he and his family were helped by many people from the church during that difficult time. He is currently married to Amy Brown and together they have six children and four grandchildren. Brian works for Sprint.
“Our church is currently feeling a new energy because of all the positive changes that have been made in the past year,” Brian said. “It is my goal to help the elders lead the church to new levels of involvement.”
