Sermons mostly go in one direction, from pulpit to pew. Preachers talk and the people listen. But preaching can go in both directions, and once did in the early church. Together, we will think about how preachers prepare sermons and work on one that Dr. Graves will preach on Sunday morning, September 23.

Sequels in Scripture: New Testament Remakes of Old Testament Stories

Moviemakers love remakes of old classics because they recognize a story that worked once and can again, with a little tweaking. The writers of the New Testament did something similar by retelling narratives from the Old Testament, especially ones in Genesis. Come and see how these stories get retold in creative new ways.

The First Seven Words of the Christ
Oct. 29, Nov. 5, and Nov. 12
Occasionally during Lent, churches will study the last seven words of Jesus on the cross. But what about the first seven words of his ministry? Jesus’ death is significant, but so is his life and ministry. We’ll look at the first words he spoke in the Gospels, but also those of the most significance. Some examples include: “Follow me,” “You give them something to eat,” and “Blessed are the poor in spirit.”
