John 1:1-5

The Bible helps us understand Jesus better with references to light. For example,  He illuminates the darkness, His glory glows, and His love radiates in us and through us. In the physical world, we are drawn to sources of light like basking in the sun, watching a candle burn, or relaxing by a crackling fire. On a deeper level, we are spiritually drawn to be close to the light and love of Jesus. Jesus’ perfect light contrasts with all that is wrong with the world yet also guides us on our life’s journey. His love warms and comforts us through our struggles and our successes. Jesus yearns for us to trust him completely, not to live in fear, but to live into our faith. He calls us to accept his light in order to become a reflection of his light. While the sunshine will darken at dusk, and the fire will eventually burn out, the light of Jesus has no end. We can draw strength from Jesus and from the light of Jesus reflected in others.

May the love, peace and joy of Jesus radiate so deeply within you that it illuminates through your soul.
