By Lara Schopp, Director of Communications

The snow crunches under my running shoes. I exhale a white cloud, inhale ice crystals. My fleece, thermal socks and ear warmer have coordinating bright orange details. I have cabin fever and have decided frigid temps, gray skies and slush-covered streets won’t keep me from my run for another day. A mile in, I’m dubious about this decision. I slip on a slick spot, plunge my right foot into a frozen puddle, and, wait…is it sleeting right now???

I don’t like cold. I don’t like snow. I really, really don’t like ice. The extreme temperatures, precipitation and especially the days upon days of grey skies have been rough this winter.

Fortunately, we’ve mostly been spared the worst of the weather on Sunday mornings, and even if we hadn’t, our general policy is that worship will go on. (If you’re ever in doubt, check our web site and Facebook page during the week, and in the event of a potential Sunday closure, the local television stations.)

But, even if the polar vortex isn’t…vortexing…on a Sunday morning, you might find you just can’t get to church. Your car has been plowed in, your baby has a fever, after last year’s slip on the ice you’re not taking any chances.

We miss you when you’re not here, but this column serves to remind you that you can still worship with us on Sundays even if you can’t make it to 6101 Ward Parkway by watching our live steam via cccckc.org.

Barbara George, our Director of Membership Development was visiting family in Chicago recently and had her first opportunity to watch the live stream. Judging by the way the viewership spikes during poor weather days, many of you have done the same. And if you haven’t, give it a try. Even if you can’t get to the computer at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, you can watch any archived services that you might have missed.

Soon, my family and I will travel to the beach. I am counting the days until our spring break trip to a place where the temperature at the time of this writing is 84 degrees Fahrenheit. (For comparison, it’s 18 in Kansas City at the moment.) I will be on an airplane during the 11:00 a.m. worship service while I’m away, but when I can I’ll sit down to watch the service from the convenience of my home. I invite you to do the same.
