“Magical!” “My favorite!” “This was the best week ever!” “I’m so glad I came.” “Are we doing this again?” These are comments buzzing around our church this summer. Summertime at CCCC has been a season of joy, renewal, and deep connection. Before we turn from one busy season to the next, I invite us first to pause and reflect on the beauty we have shared.
We kicked off summer with our much-loved Community Block Party, where neighbors, families, and friends gathered to enjoy music, food, games, and laughter. It was a powerful reminder that the church is a joyful, welcoming presence in the heart of our community.
Throughout the summer, our midweek Pop-Up Events brought surprise moments of joy and connection—from Trivia, Bingo, and Karaoke to a “story slam” and Juneteenth soul food feast with our Swope Parkway friends. These gatherings created space for meaningful conversations and reminded us that God meets us in everyday moments.
Our children thrived during Day Camp. Seeds of faith were planted as young hearts learned about God’s love in creative and engaging ways. At Middle School Camp, our youth grew deeper in their faith and built lasting friendships.
This summer marked the 50th Annual Christian Community Camp in Colorado, a milestone gathering bringing together longtime members and newcomers for a week of hiking, rest, spiritual renewal, and mountain air. It was a testament to the enduring spirit of our church and the deep bonds that have formed over half a century.
New this year was Compassion Camp, a VBS-style experience focused on learning how to love God, ourselves, and others with compassion. We welcomed 21 campers, led by 16 enthusiastic youth leaders, and supported by volunteers of all ages. It was a beautiful picture of intergenerational ministry in action and a powerful reminder of what can happen when our church comes together to nurture the faith of the next generation.
Also new was last week’s Senior Adult Celebration Lunch. With laughter, stories, and shared memories, we celebrated the wisdom and legacy of those who have walked faithfully before us.
As summer draws to a close and we look toward fall, may we carry forward the hope and energy sparked by these shared experiences. And may we continue to be a church that celebrates life together, rooted in Christ’s love.
Grace and Peace,
Katie
