On Mar. 7, 14 members of the 2009 South Africa Mission Team will leave for East London, South Africa, to continue Country Club Christian Church’s work with our mission partners there, Dawn and Jon Barnes.   The team’s main project will be at Thembani Special Day Care Centre in Bedford Township, where team members will hang curtains made by our congregation’s sewing ladies, paint, build shelves and complete other projects. In addition, the team will organize games and activities with the children at the centre and other children in the township.

The Thembani Special Day Care Centre provides day care and stimulation programs for disabled children who are often left with grandparents or distant family members while their parents seek employment in larger cities.  The mission team will also spend time at the Samaritan Centre, an AIDS hospice in East London where it did its major work project in 2007.

Team members are Katie Allison, Carty Johannsen, Jennie Lamb, Katie Lamb, Greg and Nancy Lear, Kerry Lear, Mary Linda McDonnell, Glen Miles, Dale and Marcia Ramsey, Rod Schlatter, Sue Thorne and Julia Walker.

The team should arrive in South Africa late morning on Sun., Mar. 8. Blog updates will be posted as often as possible.
