As the end of the school year approaches, students are anticipating the start of their summer vacation. However, hunger doesn’t take a vacation and in fact, food insecurity increases during summer months, when low-income students are no longer receiving free or reduced-cost breakfast and lunch at school. Food banks typically see a drop in donations this time of year. Don’t forget the Virginia Reed Food Drive during your busy summer.  We will be collecting food items like peanut butter, cereal, orange juice, canned fruit, and mac and cheese during the months of May, June and July.  Drop off donations anytime in the baskets located at the entry doors or at the Virginia Reed Food Drive table in the parlor every third Sunday.
