Cheyenne River Youth Project
Eagle Butte, South Dakota

The last two days have been very busy as we have prepared to help with the shoe project, organize a book giveaway and continue to categorize and properly store personal items for families with special needs.  The shoe project began this morning with several dozen families gathering to shop for shoes. Our kids served as hosts, helping to find the correct sizes, styles and colors. The youth are very careful, thoughtful and are demonstrating a remarkably gracious outlook. In addition to all of that we have continued to enjoy playing and being with our new friends, the children and youth of the center.

The weather has been hot and sunny the last two days so we have also organized a yard work team led by Brandon Winstead, our Director of High School Ministries.  As I mentioned in an earlier post the paid and volunteer staff here is quite small. Our presence is very much appreciated as there are many tasks that we are helping with all over the youth center.

There is also a team of bakers this morning.  They are baking cookies and other items for a bake sale tomorrow.  The money raised will go toward supporting the work of CRYP.

This morning in our family groups we heard from the apostle John who invites us to see that there is “no fear in love.”  This mission trip has given us the opportunity to face our fears, worries and anxieties in concrete ways. It has been a great opportunity to discover abilities we never knew we had; like dishwashing, trash collecting, weeding, mowing, organizing, baking, cooking, cleaning and so much more!

Tonight we will travel to another part of the reservation known as Red Scaffold.  There we will link up with our Family Mission team for an evening meal and a cultural presentation.  We are ready for nice ride through the beautiful ocean of grass.

Grace and Peace to you all,

~ Glen
