2.

Roosters crowing long before sun-up.

Hugo calling out to Jessica (yes’-si-kuh).

The grind of the gears as the bus slows.

The pounding of rocks against its sides.

Laughter.

The pop of a baseball landing in a glove.

The roar of a diesel engine (at 4am, right outside the window).

Snoring.

A child crying.

One of us crying.

The crack of a very stubborn wisdom tooth.

The patient’s stoic silence.

“How can we help you today?”

Falling water from a shower head.

Falling water from a bucket over the head.

The clang of the ladder on the bus as a child jumps on for a ride.

Myriad bird sounds.

Heavy rain against a tin roof.

The sloshing of mud on the roadside as a pig cools off.

“Please go talk to the pastor.”

More laughter.

“I don’t speak Spanish.”

Wind through the trees and patio.

The creaking metal door of an outhouse.

The (now) glorious flush of a toilet.

“Hisssssss”

Horns honking.

“Experiences that any of you need to share from today?”

Tales of the day’s experiences.

A quiet, thoughtful one on one chat outside the shop.

Bill.

Laughter.

And a softly-spoken prayer to end the day.

Some of the sounds of our Nicaragua.

Good night and God bless.
