It’s saturday and here is the obligatory blog post written entirely on  the handheld. As a special added feature this year I am typing using swype technology…i never pick my finger off the keyboard,i just slide from one letter to the next. So when you see a weird word that doesn’t make sense, it’s cuz the phone got confused. (so Just look at the letters, think about what other letters are near those on the keyboard in that particular order and bingo…you’ll come up with the right word.)

On the plane to houston. Its only half full but that’s okay since we have filled its tummy with a half ton (literally) of medical supplies. The other half tin (see? It should have written ton instead of tin) is skeeter nets, zip-off pants and pepto bismol.

Pastries from chacko’s and tasty stuff from the brookside market deli were passed around prior to the flight. (people think i’m nuts, but get stuck on a tarmac once with no food, nothing to drink and a real attachment to not being hungry and suddenly you realize that not only having plenty to eat is a really good idea when you travel, but having really good food to eat costs about the same as junk food.)

Dr.doug is from one of the carolinas (won’t know which one until we see a sweatshirt.  One of our nurses, kevin, has his kansas sweatshirt on. That’ll make for an interesting rivalry in the clinic. I know…we can talk about soccer.). Hes sposed to meet us at the houston airport (which carla tells me is about 2 hours from houston hobby airport — by car I assume.*)  doug is an internist who went looking for a medical mission trip and somehow found us. It will be good to meet him and here’s hoping he enjoys this amazing experience.

Descent underway. Then almost three hours on the ground in houston.

Holy cow! I think they broke the plane. Pilot smith, copilot jones (!!!) executed one of the roughest landings ever in beautiful sunlight and calm winds. It was so bad they didn’t even open the cockpit door to say goodbye.

Doug is here, the u.s.-based part of the team is complete. Next up, departure for manawa. Next post from CEPAD in nicarawa.

Good night.good flight.and god bless.
