We’re just two days away from our (very early!) departure for Haiti.  It is a first for us in many ways:  our congregation’s first trip to Haiti, each team member’s first trip there, a first mission trip for some, and my first time as lay leader.  With these firsts come a variety of hopes and fears, from the purely physical (accommodations, weather, sanitation, safety, flight delays), to the introspective (fear of feeling hopeless, helpless, being inadequate), to the most spiritual (that we would have the faith of the blind man, that we would slow down and see the face of Jesus in the devastation).  One theme kept surfacing in the team’s reflections: eagerness to meet the Haitian people, to learn from them, to be with them.
